The school takes its responsibilities for Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children very seriously and complies with all statutory requirements. The Christian ethos of St Matthew’s underpins the commitment to this. The Headteacher, governors, staff and volunteers all understand their responsibility for creating a climate in which all children are safe and feel safe.
It is important to be aware that all staff have a statutory duty to identify welfare concerns and indicators of possible abuse or neglect at an early stage and refer those concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead which is Mr Shawcross (Headteacher). He ensures that all staff undertake relevant training and that the school keeps up to date with all changes to legislation and requirements.
The school is proud to be part of Operation Encompass.
Safer Recruitment
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. All staff, volunteers and governors who spend time in school are subject to and enhanced DBS check as part of a thorough Safer Recruitment process.
